And this Olympic gold medalist is not slowing down!
Defending champion tennis star Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova early this Sunday morning in the Madrid Open final, easily cruising to her 50th career title. The win also allows Serena to remain ranked number one.
Sharapova struggled early with her serve as Serena took the opportunity to storm to an early lead and dominate her opponent. Williams defeated her rival 6-1, 6-4 and improved her career record against Sharapova 13-2. The only two losses came in 2004. It was also her first red clay final since 2002.
The world’s most love to be hated tennis star continued to show the naysayers that she will not be stopped by thanking her fans and the crowd…in Spanish.
Serena was also hoisted aloft by the ball boys while celebrating her win.
